PR

meet seth arron. he is a contestant on project runway. i would wear any one single garment that he has designed this season.

crazy for you rendering

a place in denver is providing some of the costumes for our production of crazy for you. we were trying to describe what we wanted the telephone girl costumes to look like. i am not the designer for the show, but i felt like i could describe what the director wanted for the show better than writing it in words. here is what i came up with...in fifteen minutes. WOO!

birthday cake

kyle loved his first piece of birthday cake. he shoveled into his mouth. i took this video around the time that he slowed down. he seemed to be experiencing a bit of a sugar crash, but he was still enjoying every minute of the delicious goodness that is birthday cake.

cupcake art!

my friend jen brought me these delicious little bites straight from heaven, actually straight from albuquerque, nm. yum! a store called "cake fetish". check it out online!

i am designing costumes for a show called "all my sons". i have had very difficult time finding dresses from the 1940's in our stock. either they aren't the right length, they don't have the right sleeve shape, or there isn't the right amount of fullness in the skirt. i did find this dress though. i actually didn't pick it out when i first saw it. i walked past it several time thinking to myself, "it's not quite right." you see, when i first sat it, it was hemmed very short, mid thigh, it was salmon colored, and it had dowdy lace lining the color and sleeves.
i walked past the dress again. i decided that maybe i could use the dress, if a few slight changes could be made. i took out the hem, let it out on the sides, took off the dowdy lace, dyed it using rit dark brown, and added some applique. the dress isn't quite finished. i am going to add more velvet applique around the color.
i called my actress in for a fitting and it looked amazing on her. plus it fits in wonderfully with my color palette. i will post my color palette along with renderings and more pics of costumes soon!

a visit!

ian, emily, and addie are coming to town in a few weeks! can't wait!

water...plus a party

colorado is dry. because of this, it is important to keep myself hydrated. therefore, i purchased a bottle that holds 8 glasses of water. i fill it every night, place it in the fridge, and bring it to work the next day. this is all very well and good and seems like a successful plight, and yet, often times, it's unsuccessful. this is because i find the taste of water to be a bit boring. i really love water when i am super thirsty or during a workout, but during my work day, i need more excitement. this is where the crystal lite drink packets come in. as of today, i am a first time user and i have been very pleased with the results. these little crystal lite packets are a great invention. they are sugar free and add a party to your otherwise boring water bottle!

these are the books i have read over the past couple of months. i actually listened to "kill the messenger" on cd when i drove to utah a couple of weeks ago, but i think that made it all that much better cause the guy who read was AMAZING! and i am not quite done with "the lost symbol". i saw "the lovely bones" in the theatre a few weeks ago. it was ok, just like the book. not my favorite. "the lost symbol" is mediocre. "kill the messenger"...phenomenal!

life's work

i love my job. some days i hate it. but i am grateful to have it. i work with interesting artists, i meet new people all of the time, i get to be creative, i get to organize, and most importantly, i get to be me. i think it's what we do that determines who we are. and i guess it's who we are that determines what we do. either way, i think that heavenly father sets it all up in his own way. and some how, it becomes our way too, even if we didn't expect it. but in the end, it's what makes us happy that is important.

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!!!

Valentine's Day was always one of my favorite holidays. All the way from elementary school through highschool i enjoyed the colors, the candies, and the boys. truth be told, i have been in love at least a hundred times. even if it was for fifteen minutes. i strongly believe in love and all of the wonderful things that come along with it. i don't believe that i myself will ever be married, but i feel that those who are married are very lucky to have found someone to share a life with. john lennon once said, "all you need is love." i think a person can do anything and will do anything for love. and if that is the case, then all we really need is love.

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!

poster art

i have friend who commissions me to do what i call "poster art". i draw an image and he makes it into a theatre poster for a show he is directing. this is the fourth image i have drawn for him (oliver twist) which i finished today. i am posting three of the four (the other two are a halloween show and into the woods). i don't know where the one i did for rabbit hole is. i like doing these little drawings. i put them in my portfolio and earn some extra cash on the side. :)

piggy tails

since we've opened sweeney todd (that delightful demon barber on fleet street), i have had some time to focus on little projects in my costume shop. after cleaning and rolling fabric, putting away unused costumes, and picking safety pins off the floor, i decided that today i would make sewing machine covers. jen, my trusty assistant, and i whipped out these colorful covers that are sure to put a smile on any one's face. usually i stay far away from pastels, but since i have lived with my sister (head of the pastel fan club) i have learned to appreciate these soft and relaxing hues. my favorite part, besides constructing the covers with my new project runway special edition computerized machine of love, was to come up with little embellished handles that are not only functional, but decorative. my favorite machine cover...can you guess?....is the pink and white striped one with the "strawberry" on top. i could just eat it....and i almost did. i mean i had it in my mouth but then jen pulled me aside and told me that the covers are not edible. so i guess i will just have to admire it from afar.
